Singapore Stardard Chartered Marathon
Yesterday afternoon, i returned home tired and strained. No, don't get me wrong. I didn't participate in the marathon. Instead i volunteered myself at the drink station together with van and ching. We were at drink station 13. My lucky number! haha...
Anyway, why i said it was tired and exhausting because we were to reach East Coast Park (ECP) on Sun 1am. Don't doubt me, it was one in the morning although the race only started at 5.30am !!! Imagine how we are so DEPRIVED of SLEEP. We kept talking to keep ourselves awake.haha... That was definitely a record breaking for me as i had never been without sleep for more than 24 hours. Torturous...
However, compared to us, the runners were much more exhausted. To complete 42km is never easy, which is mission impossible for me. LOL. You would need alot of determination and perseverance...
Kenya's runners were amazing! In one hour's time, they already reached the midpoint which was 21km. They toppled many cups as they tried to grab their drinks because they couldn't slow down in order to maintain their speed. Now, that was what i called fast and furious!
Being the first time taking part in this event, it was an eye-opening one. Apart from the sleep deprivation, people could just throw their litter without to worry of getting caught. It was like a "institutionalized" and "legitimized" method to litter. Interesting right? Convenient for the runners but not for us and the sweepers. Because we have to pick up the cups and energy gel packets.. I really appreciated those who were considerate enough to throw in the trash bags when they see us clearing the rubbish. Some even thanked us. These small little gestures had made my tiring day worth the price. =) There were some who were super inconsiderate. They just threw their cups right in front us! Not that the trash bags were far from them. In fact, the bags were just RIGHT BESIDE them! Don't they know picking up trash by hands is back-killing??!!
I have been sleeping quite abit after i returned home since yesterday. and i feel like sleeping again now..haha..
